“Another fresh new year is here . . .
Another year to live!
To banish worry, doubt, and fear,
To love and laugh and give!
This bright new year is given me
To live each day with zest . . .
To daily grow and try to be
My highest and my best!
I have the opportunity
Once more to right some wrongs,
To pray for peace, to plant a tree,
And sing more joyful songs!”

As winter approaches you will need to be sure to inspect the following items: battery, wipers, antifreeze levels, heating system, brakes and check the defroster to make sure it is fully operable as well as tires and emergency equipment is loaded and easily accessible in your vehicle.
Inspect your battery and make sure It is fully charged. Frigid weather can cause a heavy drain on your battery. Inspect your windshield wipers to insure that they are in good condition as they’ll get a lot of use brushing off snow. Check your fluid levels to make sure you have plenty of windshield washer fluid in the reservoir and carry an extra gallon in your car. Your windshield washer fluid will get used up quickly keeping salt off the windshield. You will want to make sure that your antifreeze is at proper levels as well and this is very important because Antifreeze can prevent freezing of your engine . Have your heating system checked by your local mechanic, this will include your defroster, which you’ll use often during the winter months.
Make sure you have good all weather/snow tires on your car. If you live in an area where you get a good amount of snowfall you may want to make a seasonal change from all season to snow tires. All season radials just don’t give you the same performance in snow and ice that dedicated snow tires do.
Finally, make sure you are stocked with the following equipment in case you find yourself in an emergency. Pack a Snow scraper, deicer, blankets, extra hats and mittens, a blanket, small snow shovel and some boots. Also you should include a first aid kit, booster cables, a screwdriver, wrench, pliers and a flashlight with extra batteries.
